The controversy between 'Priya Cinema' owner Arijit Dutta and the makers of 'Projapoti'

'Priya Cinema' owned by Arijit Dutta is one of the well-known Cinema Halls in Kolkata, especially for the people of South Kolkata. The owner of 'Priya Cinema' has decided that he will show only Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer film Pathaan from January 25. And no Bengali movies will be shown for the next few days.  The news has already created controversy in the Bengali film industry.

Meanwhile, Atanu Raychaudhuri, who is the co-producer of Dev and Mithun Chakraborty-Starrer film Projapoti and Shatadeep Saha the distributor of the film, opened their lips on this. In a conversation with Anandabazar Patrika, they said that Arijit Dutta's decision will have an adverse effect on the Bengali film industry.

Arijit Dutta also gave a statement on this. He said ''I have given a lot of time for Bengali cinema. Even in the last few months, I have shown only Bengali films in my cinema hall. The Bengali filmmaker already knew that the film Pathaan will be released this season. But still, they released their films alongside this big film. I asked everyone to think about their profit as well.''

Arijit Dutta believes that no one will be profitable from taking action for Bengali films only based on emotions. In his words, ''At the end of the day, it's a business.'' Post-pandemic, the financial condition of single screens is not new in the industry. I have to go with Pathaan so that I can survive.

''The hall was closed for eight months after the fire-Incident. At that time, the Bengali industry did not think about me except for a few people'' added Arijit Dutta.

Incidentally, the makers of the recent-released film 'Projapoti' have withdrawn their film from the 'Priya Cinema' since January 20. In this context, Arijit said, "If they are so worried about Bengali cinema, why are they not allowed to continue their film in these five days despite good sales?"
