Versatile actress Swatilekha Sengupta passes away on Wednesday, June 16. She died after a long battle with a kidney-related problem at the age of 71. Her husband Rudraprasad Sengupta and Sohini Sengupta tried hard to save her but couldn't. She was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to renal problems and was later shifted to another hospital. 'She was suffering from diabetes and was in ICU for 25 days' said Sohini Sengupta. She died on 16th June around 3 pm.

Actress Priyanka Sarkar wrote on Twitter expressing her grief 'The journey was started from Ghare Baire, and at the end, they both left us. Swatilekha Sengupta in the midst of the pain of not having Soumitra Chatterjee.

Swatilekha Sengupta was an Indian actress and theater personality. She started her career in theater in 1970. In 1978 she joined a theater group named Nandikar where she worked with Ramprasad Sengupta, later she married Ramprasard Sengupta. She made her film debut with Ghare Baire directed by Satyajit Ray where she played Bimala.

Swatilekha Sengupta also worked with Late Soumitra Chatterjee in Bela Sese which one of the most remarkable films. In 2011, she had been won Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Indian theatre as an actor. .The last two films starring Swatlekha Sengupta, Bela Suru, and Dharmajuddha are awaiting release.
