Singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. She had to be hospitalized as she was covid positive and it continues as she was suffering from other health-related issues. It was learned yesterday that she has been kept on ventilation due to deteriorating condition. But all the efforts couldn't save the legendary singer and she breathed her last.

The whole nation is mourning the death of Lata Mangeshkar. The stars of the Indian film industry, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have expressed their grief over the loss.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and write on twitter 'I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerize people'.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal has expressed her grief and said 'Feeling numb. Devastated. Yesterday was Saraswati Puja & today Ma took her blessed one with her. Somehow it feels that even the birds, trees & wind are silent today. Swar Kokila Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji your divine voice will echo till eternity. Rest in peace. Om Shanti'.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also shared her feeling over the loss. She has written on Twitter 'I pay my heart-felt tribute to the departed icon of India, Bharatratna Lata Mangeshkar. While offering my sincerest condolences to her family and the billions of admirers that she leaves behind all over the world, I express my deepest sadness at the demise of the genius that the Nightingale of India truly was. Like all her fans and followers across the planet, I was also mesmerized by her voice and renderings and felt grateful that she held Bengal and the artists of the East so dear to her heart and so integral to her magnificent world of music.

Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was also shocked after hearing the news. He said 'Deeply saddened by the news... Lata Ji, you and your songs will be in our hearts forever. Heartfelt condolences to Lata Ji's family, friends, and well-wishers'.

Lata Mangeshkar aka Hema Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929. Her first Hindi song was "Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu" for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau which was released in 1943. Lata Mangeshkar got her first major break with the song "Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora' in the movie Majboor in 1948. In 2001, Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna which is India's highest civilian honor.

Lata Mangeshkar made her debut in Bengali music with "Prem Ekbari Esechilo Nirobe" which was composed by Hemant Kumar. The same year, she recorded "Rongila Banshite", composed by Bhupen Hazarika. Mangeshkar has sung 185 songs in Bengali. Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards and honors, including the Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan,  Dadasaheb Phalke Award, NTR National Award, and many more. She has also won National Film Awards three times.
