Veteran actor Pradip Mukherjee, who debuted in Satyajit Ray's film Jana Aranya, has passed away. This Monday (29th August) morning, Pradip Mukherjee breathed his last. He was hospitalized for the past few days and was also put on ventilation on Sunday.

According to hospital sources, the amount of blood poisoning had increased. Lung infection was present, along with pneumonia. The actor was shooting for director Nirmal Chakraborty's film. After two days of shooting, he fell ill and was admitted to a hospital. First he was admitted to a private hospital in Nagerbazar. He was later admitted to the private department of the Municipal Hospital of Dumdum Cantonment where breathed his last.

Pradip Mukherjee was an actor and dramatist by profession who mainly acted in Bengali films. Although he was not so popular among audiences, he was critically acclaimed for his outstanding performance in movies like Satyajit Ray's Jana Aranya, Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Dooratwa, and Rituparno Ghosh's Utsab. Besides acting, he worked full-time as a tax consultant in Lake Town, Patipukur area of East Kolkata.

Pradip Mukherjee made his debut with Satyajit Ray's film Jana Aranya in 1976. He acted in Bengali films like Dooratwa (1981), Ashleelotar Daye (1983), Hirer Angti (1992), Utsab (2001), Goynar Baksho (2013), Badshahi Angti (2014), Kahaani 2 (2016), and Torulatar Bhoot (2021),  and many more.
