For the uninitiated, while the winners were already announced in July, President Droupadi Murmu awarded the winners today.

Today (30th September), Subhrajit Mitra along with Madhur Bhandarkar (presenter of the film) accepted the Best Bengali Film Award for their film Avijatrik at 68th National Film Awards ceremony which was held in Delhi.

It is the sequel to the classic ‘Apu Trilogy’, directed by Satyajit Ray. The plot begins from where ‘The Apu Trilogy’ ended in 1959 with ‘Apur Sansar’. The story revolves around Apu and his only son Kajol. Apu revisits his village and relives his childhood through the eyes of Kajol. Kajol lost his mother during his birth. The story shows the relationship between Apu and his son Kajol. The film features many prominent actors from the industry.

Another interesting part is that Arjun Chakraborty and his father Sabyasachi Chakraborty were seen together on screen for the first time through this film. Apart from them, the film also stars Ditipriya Roy, Sreelekha Mitra, Arpita Chatterjee, Biswanath Basu, Sohag Sen, Tanushree Shankar, and Ayushman Mukhopadhyay in pivotal roles.

The film was shot in 68 locations to retain the rich aesthetic that compliments the backdrop of 1940s, India. Supratim Bhol also received the Best Cinematography award for the same film at the ceremony.
