It was reported that actor Rahul Banerjee, who is playing the lead role in Laalkuti will make his directional debut with 'Kolkata 96', produced by Rana Sarkar. But the debutant director is now in trouble. Film producer Rana Sarkar is upset after Sourav Ganguly lost the post of BCCI president. He has informed that he does not want to make this film.

But Rahul is not one to back down. He said that he will make the film and will bring the remarkable moments of Sourav's life on screen. It doesn't matter if Sourav Ganguly is president or not. So, the work of the film will not stop. If Rana Sarkar doesn't want to do the movie, he will talk to another producer about the film.

In an Interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Rana said that Rahul wanted to portray on screen the frenzy created in the city of Kolkata around Sourav's century at Lord's Cricket Ground. According to the producer, Sourav Ganguly assured them that he would give them some footage of that period to facilitate the making of the film. But now it is not possible anymore. He was thinking that if Sourav was there, their work would have been much easier. So, he decided not to do this film.

The interesting part is that Rahul Banerjee and Priyanka Sarkar's only son Shohoj was supposed to make his big-screen debut with this movie. The film also stars Ritwick Chakraborty and Sohini Sarkar in pivotal roles.
