Rabindra Sangeet Singer Sumitra Sen passed away this early morning (3rd January). The news of her death was confirmed by her daughter Srabani Sen. She was 89. Taking to social media, Sumitra Sen's daughter Srabani Sen has shared new news with the world. The users of the social media platform to the comment section of Srabani Sen's post to mourn the demise of the veteran singer. 

The singer had been suffering from various diseases related to old age for a long time. She was also diagnosed with bronchopneumonia on December 21 last year. She was admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata. The doctors said that the artist had secondary complications due to pneumonia. The artist was brought home on Monday night. It was decided by the family that the treatment of the artist will continue from home. But the veteran artist breathed her last at around 4 am in the morning on Tuesday.

Sumitra Sen is a well-known name in the world of Rabindra Sangeet. Her two daughters - Indrani Sen and Srabani Sen have also made a mark in the music world of Bengal.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sent a condolence message on the death of this veteran artist. Expressing condolences, the Chief Minister wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of eminent musician Sumitra Sen. I had a close relationship with her for a long time. The West Bengal government awarded her 'Sangeet Mahasamman' in 2012. Her passing away is an irreparable loss to the music world. My sincere condolences to Sumitra Di's daughters Indrani and Srabani, and her fans''.
