Bengali writer Samares Mazumdar, known for 'Animesh series' and the detective character Arjun, has passed away after being hospitalized for COPD complications. The author from West Bengal breathed his last today (8th May) at 5:45 at a private hospital in Kolkata. He was 81 at the time of his death. As per the report, Samares Mazumdar was admitted on April 25 due to a cerebral hemorrhage. And later, the author faced various health problems.

He has gifted us one after the other timeless novels such as Uttaradhikar, Kaalbela, Kalpurush, etc. 

The author was born in Gairkata, West Bengal in 1942. Mazumdar completed his bachelor's degree in Bengali literature from Scottish Church College in Kolkata. Followed by a Master's in Bengali Literature from the University of Calcutta.  His first story appeared in Desh literary magazine in 1967. Dour ("Run") was his first novel, which was published in Desh in 1976. He was best known for his Animesh series of novels, the second of which (Kaalbela) won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984. He was also known for creating the detective character Arjun, who is the central character of the 2013 film Arjun – Kalimpong E Sitaharan. The Bengali film Buno Haansh, starring Dev, Srabanti Chatterjee, and Tanusree Chakraborty in lead roles, is also based on his novel of the same name.
