Veteran actress Madhabi Mukherjee admitted to hospital

Senior actress Madhabi Mukherjee, known as Satyajit Ray's Charulata has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata. The 81-year-old actress has been undergoing treatment since June 21 at a private hospital in South Kolkata. It is known that the veteran actress is suffering from vasculitis. She was initially admitted to the general ward for a skin infection on her leg but later shifted to critical care as her condition worsened. Currently, the condition of the actress is stable.

On this day, the hospital issued an official notice for the well-wishers of the actress that reads ''no reason to worry. The actress is stable now. A team of doctors led by Dr. Biswajit Ghosh Dastidar, Head of the Medicine Department at Woodlands Hospital, is always monitoring the veteran actress.'' 

Madhabi Mukherjee is currently kept in CCU. The actress reached the hospital with bruises on her leg. After a skin examination, it is known that she is suffering from an autoimmune disease called vasculitis dermatitis. However, as per the latest report, the veteran actress is slowly recovering.

Madhabi Mukherjee (Born as Madhuri Mukherjee) won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the Bengali film Dibratrir Kabya. She has a strong theater background. She worked on stage with doyens such as Sisir Bhaduri, Ahindra Choudhury, Nirmalendu Lahiri, and Chhabi Biswas.

She made her on-screen debut in Premendra Mitra's Kankantola Light Railway (1950). Her first leading role came with Tapan Sinha's Tonsil (1956). Her name was later changed into "Madhabi" by Mrinal Sen in his Baishe Sraban (1960).
