Actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Bangladesh-based actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila, wife of renowned filmmaker Srijit Mukherji, has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in the field of cinema. The actress has been honored with this prestigious award for her incredible performance in Anirban Chakraborty's film ''O Abhagi''. 

Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's short story 'Abhagir Swargo', ''O Abhagi'' stars Rafiath Rashid Mithila in the lead role. The film was released on 29th March 2024. Since then, Mithila getting appreciation from the makers, audiences, and critics as well. And now the Rafiath Rashid Mithila has been honored with India's one of the most prestigious awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at The Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival 2024. Although Mithila could not attend the event organized in Delhi as she is currently in Bangladesh, the director and producer of the film accepted the award on behalf of Mithila.

In a video message, Rafiath Rashid Mithila said, "I am very happy to inform everyone that I have won the Best Actress Award at the 14th Dadasaheb Film Festival 2024 which was organized in Delhi. I got this award for my acting in ''O Abhagi''. I would like to thank our director Anirban Chakraborty, producer Dr. Prabir Bhaumikand, and our entire team for this.''

About the film ''O Abhagi''

Speaking about the film, it revolves around Abhagi (played by Mithila), a poor villager who belongs to a lower caste and has been left by her husband. She lives with her son Kangali. In her childhood, Abhagi once watched Yamraj in a play and fell in love with his aura and power. Apart from Rafiath Rashid Mithila, the film also stars Subrata Dutta, Debjani Chatterjee, Ishaan Mazumder, Sayan Ghosh, Jiniya Pande, Krishno Banerjee and Sourav Halder in pivotal roles.
