Actor Chanchal Chowdhury to play the titular role in a biopic on Mrinal Sen

It's been officially confirmed that actor Chanchal Chowdhury will play the titular role in the biopic of Mrinal Sen which will be directed by none other than Srijit Mukherji who recently directed biopic like Shabaash Mithu.

This Friday morning (30th December), taking to social media, the director shared the official poster of 'Padatik' where Chanchal Chowdhury will play the character of Mrinal Sen.

Chanchal Chowdhury recently lost his father forever. Otherwise, he was supposed to come to Kolkata to start shooting for Mrinal's biopic in the first week of January. However, on the fourth death anniversary of the legendary Mrinal Sen, producer Firdausul Hasan made an announcement about the film and shared the official of 'Padatik'.

"I was very scared at first! But there was also a greed. Srijit Da approached me about six months ago to play the role of Mrinal Sen. He also said, I am the right person for the role'' said Chanchal Chowdhury in a conversation with Anandabazar Patrika.

In 2020, director Srijit Mukherji shared his desire about making a web series on Mrinal Sen. He also wrote the screenplay during the lockdown. Later he decided to make this film. Kunal Sen, son of late filmmaker Mrinal Sen, has scripted the biopic along with Srijit Mukherji.

Speaking about Mrinal Sen, he was one of the legendary filmmakers in the Bengali film Industry. He received various national and international honors including eighteen Indian National Film Awards. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the Government of France honored him with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the Russian Government honored him with the Order of Friendship. Sen was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award for filmmakers in India.

Apart from Bengali films, Mrinal Sen also directed a few Hindi and Telugu films like Mrigayaa (1976), Ek Din Achanak (1989), Genesis (1986), Khandhar (1983), and Oka Oori Katha (1977).
