After Chhabi Biswas in Bengali and Balraj Sahni and Danny Denzongpa in Hindi, Mithun Chakraborty, one of the most versatile actors in Indian cinema, is set to play the iconic character of Kabuliwala, created by none other than Rabindranath Tagore. Sounds interesting right, it's true.

Many actors have played the role of Kabuliwala aka Rahmat Khan before Mithun Chakraborty. Chhabi Biswas portrayed Kabuliwala in Tapan Sinha's Bengali film. In Hindi, audiences got Balraj Sahni and Danny Denzongpa in this iconic role. And now the audience will see Mithun Chakraborty in this revered role.

If everything goes according to plan, Mithun Chakraborty will be seen in the role of Kabuliwala in Suman Ghosh's upcoming film. After their successful partnership in 'Nobel Chor', this will be another treat for the audience. This is the second time Suman Ghosh has joined hands with Mithun Chakraborty for his film which will be produced by SVF.

However, the rest of the film's cast is yet to be announced. Apart from Kolkata, the film is also rumored to be shot in Ladakh and Afghanistan. Keeping in mind the political situation in Afghanistan in the recent past, the makers have already started preparing for the necessary permissions.

About Kabuliwala's story:

In Rabindranath Tagore's story, Kabuliwala aka Rahmat is a fruit seller, a Pashtun from Kabul, Afghanistan, who visits Calcutta (present-day Kolkata), India each year to sell dry fruits. Kabuliwala's life takes a turn when he meets Mini in India, and he finds his own daughter in Mini. Rahmat comes to India every year to sell dry fruits and to meet this girl named Mini.

One day, while collecting a debt, Kabuliwala got into a physical altercation with a man and was imprisoned. After several years he was pardoned and released from prison. He returned to meet Mini at her house on her wedding day, but she had grown up and did not recognize him. Her father, however, gave him some money so he could visit his own daughter.
